Joan Kennedy

This award, created in memory of Joan Kennedy, is given to a worthy technologist to honour a technologist who has contributed to the profession of medical technology, locally, provincially and often nationally.

Joan graduated from the School of Medical Technology in 1958. She worked most of her career in Edmundston, her hometown. She was Chief Technologist; the term Laboratory Manager had not yet been instituted in this province. She then went to the University of P.E.I. and earned a BSc. after which she took up a position of Chief Technologist at a hospital in Lindsey Ontario. Joan died tragically in 1975 and was buried in Mississauga where her mother and sister lived.

The first Joan Kennedy Memorial award was given to Ruth Bulmer at the Congress in Fredericton in 1979. Joan's brother attended the ceremonies representing the family to present the award. Other recipients have been Charlotte Lovatt, Jean Little (1996). Denise Bushey (2001), Janet Reid (2006), Coral McRae (2011), Susan Findlater (2016), Marsha Cook (2016), Suzanne Turcotte (2021).
