For the purpose of this policy, social media refers to any facility for online publication and commentary, including without limitation, blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, YouTube etc. This policy is in addition to and complements any existing or future policies regarding the use of technology, computers, e-mail and the internet. Social networking can be a positive tool that fosters professional connections, enriches MLT knowledge base, and promotes timely communication with patients and family members. NBSMLT cautions MLTs that they need to be aware of the potential consequences of disclosing patient-related information via social media.
Why we encourage the use of Social Media:
- Fundraising and marketing

- Establishing relationship and online community
Tips for using social media:
- Only write about what you know and leave out things you are unknowledgeable about
- Be responsible for the contents that you publish and keep in mind that what you publish may remain in the public domain for a long time. Be smart in protecting your own privacy on the Internet.
- If you identify your affiliation to NBSMLT, your social media activities should be consistent with NBSMLTs standards of pratice and code of professional conduct
- The web is not anonymous. Assume that everything you write can be traced back to you.
