To protect the public, the practice of Medical Laboratory Technology is regulated in the province of New Brunswick. Any person who practices as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) must meet standards set out by the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists.
An MLT is trained at an accredited technical school or university; the candidate must successfully complete didactic and clinical training to be eligible to write the national entry to practice examinations. The NBSMLT recognizes the CAMLPR entry-to-practice examination as the minimum standard for entry to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), effective March 1, 2026. Applicants who successfully completed the CSMLS entry-to-practice examination prior to March 1, 2026, continue to have that examination recognized for registration purposes.
