To be eligible for registration as an MLT in New Brunswick, education requirements state that you must have either successfully completed an accredited MLT program, or been deemed equivalent after having a prior learning assessment conducted by an NBSMLT recognized body, such as the CSMLS or CAMLPR. All MLT education programs are required to publish their accreditation status on their website, including the full descriptors.

·        ACCREDITED: The educational program complies with the accreditation standard. The accreditation status will expire six years from the date of the accreditation award. Graduating students from an accredited program may be eligible for further credentialing/certification/registration as required by their professional and/or regulatory authorities.

·        ACCREDITED WITH CONDITION: The educational program demonstrates partial compliance with accreditation standards. It must implement specific changes within two years of receiving conditional status to maintain its accreditation. However, students should be aware of the risk that the program may not be able to make the necessary changes, potentially resulting in a loss of accreditation. If the required changes have been made, the program is then accredited and graduating students may be eligible for further credentialing/certification/registration as required by their professional and/or regulatory authorities.

·        ADMITTED (formerly Registered): An educational program has applied for accreditation, and accreditation processes are underway. The admitted status will expire 3 years from the date of registration. Students are advised to monitor the accreditation status of an admitted status program to ensure that accredited status has been achieved at the time of their graduation. Students enrolled in an educational program that has not been accredited at the time of graduation may not be eligible for further credentialing/certification/registration as required by their professional and/or regulatory authorities.

Approval status by Accreditation Canada/HSO is required by educational institutions in order for students to write the national entry-to-practice exam.
